need help trying to refine a workflow.

Hi guys.

i'm trying to add some embossed gold to plate armour. currently i'm drawing the pattern i want into the armour with splines, and converting the splines to cylinders. it looks good except for one small hitch!

currently, if i have any of the splines overlapping, i can only fuse the verts together, making sure they're in the same place. but i want to WELD them, so that i can have "branches" of cylinders coming off of a main cylinder, and have them pre-welded. right now i'm having to go in and cut and weld all the edges together manually after converting from splines to cylinder.

any ideas?

This is Max right? Have you tried ProBoolean?

yes it's Max, ProBoolean is... "okay" but it gives a pretty messy result that needs to much cleanup.

How about doing it in Zbrush, maybe with Zsketch you could make a seamless branching structure.
