CURRENT PROGRESS:

Hey guys, so I figured I'd start being productive with my breaks during the work day (2-15's a day). The result of the last week or so is this:

Not much to show right now. I'm working on my hard-surface modeling and normal map baking with this project, as well as paying homage to my favorite franchise. I'm
hopeful this could be a decent portfolio piece, so I'm going to have a few more polys to work with than they did in Reach.
Just trying to figure out which bits I'll make with geo and which I'll rely on NDO2 for. I'm also trying to give it just a tiny bit of my own twist, particularly with the butt and possibly the grip/trigger area, as I really like the style of the Halo 4 DMR in those areas, so I'm going to try and combine the two if at all possible. Let me know what you think, sorry for the shitty screen-grabs, I'm just throwing this up to keep myself honest. Critique definitely welcome, I'm not a gun guy, so I readily welcome input. Thanks.

As I said in my original post, I'm not really a gun guy, and I'm working on my hard-surface modeling, so I am definitely looking for, and probably need critique.
I'm not too sure about the flat disk on the lens of the scope. It would mess with the magnification by my reckoning. It probably should be completely convex.
Screenshot below might be a good ref image if you don't have it already
@Mats: Thanks! Yeah, I knew from the get-go quite a bit of the detail would be in nDo2, I just didn't want to rely on it too heavily.

It's sitting at around 12K tris, 11,800 to be exact.

A lot of the detail will obviously be added in via NDO2, but for now I'm pretty happy with it. Critique welcome, thanks!
EDIT: I realize the clip is missing, I wanted to possibly do bullets and the clip on a much smaller, separate sheet.

Hoping to finish up the normals sometime tomorrow thanks to Labor Day, on to textures very soon.

Also, realized after I grabbed the screen, I've got a piece that I obviously missed in the baking process, that little black square right by the trigger. I want to keep the texture relatively clean, and mostly black. I want to have the variation in materials of the original, but keep the color palette very dark, sort of a "spec-ops" paint job. Let me know what you think, I'll be needing a ton of critique when I really get down to material definition, as it's one of my weaknesses currently.
