Welcome to the Process Blog for The Blue Devil game.

The Blue Devil is an epic rpg/side scrolling fighter that comes from the same vein of old school games like Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy VI, and Xenogears. It is the story of a group of young adventurers as they travel to different worlds to stop the ultimate universe destroying entity: The Blue Devil.

BLOG

This project is REALLY in the embryo stage at this point. And when I say embryo, I mean that conception has just occurred, and both parents are enjoying a cigarette. And hell, it might not even come to fruition. My hope is that this blog will keep me on target with semi-quasi-sortof-regular updates.
As I update it, I hope the community here will enjoy the process work, and as always, I am more than happy to talk about any tips and tricks I might learn through the course of this project.

I plan to create a tumblr as well: http://bluedevilgame.tumblr.com/

Created the first post. Go me. *Hi-five's myself*

UPDATE

I plan to use this first post as my edit post for updates, feeds, and any news I might have.

Give me a few minutes while I put the big post together....

    Conception

So, I've always had a fascination with the PSone rpgs. Like a lot of us, I grew up playing playing them, and I can say that those games have played a big role to influence me to make my own games. I love their texture, color choices, characters, and innovative techniques, and I would love to be able to take those concepts and apply it to my own.

The game designers deserve some serious kudos for creating the art that they did with the limited technology they possessed. Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of the old school rpgs is their use of pre-rendered backgrounds (PreRBGs). Chrono Cross is the most notable (and in my opinion, one of the most beautiful) examples of a game that utilizes PreRBGs. So, as I'm studying Game Design right now, I decided to take the opportunity to try out for myself to see if this concept of preRBGs could still hold weight in today's gaming world, and to develop a pipeline for quickly creating games that use PreRBGs.

    Proof of Concept

So I set off to do so.
The first game project I attempted was a systems prototype built in Unity. I had never scripted before, so that was a learning curve I had to overcome, but the process of learning scripting ended up being very enjoyable.

    EDIT

Life calls. The post incomplete, so I'll be back to finish the rest of this later today.
