Steampunk Portal: The Gentry Turret

So after I saw this awesome concept on DA, I got a bit excited and made it. I suck at beauty renders, so here's an in-engine shot:

I hate texturing, so you may notice that the textures are super lazy. I tried to use the engines shaders to enhance the materials rather than trying to paint it with my meager skillz. Learning I guess. Any thoughts on what I can do better next time? I tend to gravitate towards steampunk which generally means I am texturing brass, and I still haven't quite got the hang of it yet. Any tips for making brass/copper textures look more convincing?
