Just been on Autodesk site and there is a trail download for Maya 2014 but it only lists 64bit.
Is there to be a 32 bit version? I cannot see any further spec info on their site
Core 2 Duo and above should work for 64 bit.
If you have a regular Core Duo and you're on a budget, you can pick up a Core 2 Duo from ebay and swap it. Many systems support this upgrade, although you may still be stuck with 4 GB maximum RAM.
Seems most apps are doing away with 32 bit nowadays.I am using a Quad Core 2 processor. From the posts here, that means I can upgrade to Windows Vista 64 bit os and everything will work fine?I might just grab a Win 7 64 os and maybe upgrade my graphics card to use dx11.
WHile where on the subject, anyone used Win8 with 3D? Rendering? Maya? Does it play nice?
I haven't had any problems with Maya, ZBrush(no more than usual :poly124:), UDK, CryEngine, XNormal... and so on. Upgraded from Windows 7, reinstalled my stuff and haven't had a problem yet. I know Windows 8 is designed to check for program compatibility between Windows 7 and 8 and will carry over your compatible programs, but when I bought my copy online, that feature wasn't available. Not sure if you'd run into any problems if you let Windows copy your files over.
Been using vista for a very long time and it works fine though I have been hearing a lot of cool stuff about Win7.The whole hassle of transfering files and applications...??.
Still using 2013 and loving it.I have always thought of upgrading to 64bit but since I can pretty much do all I need to do since I started using 32,I have never bothered.I gather 64bit gives better performance.Even the latest After Effects supports only 64bit cpu.Guess 32 bit os will fiddle out sooner or later.

yup and loving it. It's much leaner than Win 7. Plus they did away with the annoying Basic vs. Aero thing. I got a start menu replacement and boot to desktop. I never see metro. Kinda sad, because its a really good OS but all the metro horror stories give it a bad rap.

Well looks like I am gonna get a new computer
You probably just need to install another OS version.
