advanced UV question

Hey Guys,
Is there any tool or a tutorial how i can auto UV a plane, a Landscape with Highresolution in the Middle of Terrain and Less resoution as fewer the uv is goint to the edges ? hope u understand my question.

UV it and then use soft selection on the UVs at the centre to scale up the centre?

I imagine that'll end up with some strange stretching, though.
