Hey guys, just wanted to share my latest work here, since I've posted it already some time ago to all the other major forums and websites.

Coincidentally, the same theme has already been made by someone on the polycount forums and has ended up in the header banner, congrats to the person, but here's my version of Walt :)

I'm no character artist but I feel I should chip in and say how amazing this is. This is a really brilliant likeness. I don't think the skin is as varied and realistic as Rikk's version, and the color of it is a bit strange looking in some places especially around the eyes, but the beard and detail and likeness is just incredible.

    Very well done!

Thanks for the critique, I really appreciate it. As for the color, I think making it subtle is the key to realistic skin, which is why maybe my texture would appear lacking in comparison to Rikk's. But let's not make this a contest, each artist expresses his own perception of things, and I don't want to criticize his work just so I could glorify mine ;) So I'm avoiding that route. As I've said, I had no idea anyone else was doing it when I started, so it's exciting to see two entirely different artists work on the same project and bring their own uniqueness to their renders

I'd have to agree that the face and head are excellent.

The shirt, however, can use some work to match the quality of the rest of the image. A normal map would make the shirt look more like cloth. The buttons themselves are a bit too white, and the holes are a bit too small. The threads on the buttons seem too perfect, without the irregularities you see in real buttons. Finally, the button holes are typically reinforced by thread, and the thread along the seams should be visible, especially where it crosses the while stripes.
