Hi everyone !
We're participating in this challenge in a team of 3 people:
• TEAM: "Burgerstorm"Mau - Hoshi - Ulrick (myself)
A Belgo-French team
We've all recently left Ankama and we were already working together in their 3D team, on Slage.
Why "Burgerstorm" ? Well guys... u should try to make your brainstorms eating burgers in restaurant... That's great
• PROJECT: "On The Edge"
The main idea is someone (something ?) escaping a cave / temple / ruin on a handmade "flying machine" (flying mining cart ?), because the path (railroad ?) is broken... So that's his last chance to escape...
The beauty shots will be "taken" at the precise moment where the machine takes off, and no one will know if it's a sucess... or not
• REFERENCES:
Environment: Old Temple with mining railroad, like Indiana Jones in Disneyland, or Alcatraz in The Rock
Flying Machine: Warhammer's Dwarves Gyrocopter, Da Vinci's machines or Peter Pan's childs inventions.
I let my co-workers complete what's missing and see u soon for the first WIP... :shifty:

Also, Burgerstorm is a perfect team name.
Time to show some WIP
Nothing set or finished, we're still concepting and discussing about it !
The Temple Cave:
Our refs:
And the first concepts of Mau and I (but especially Mau :poly136: ), just follow the arrows to see the evolution:
The Flying Machine:
Some concept I did, there will be some improvments but it's almost the final version
And Hoshi, who doesn't do 2D art, is preparing hiself with some 3D tilling tests
So after several others concepts and iterations, Mau did the final "overall" concept on the left and Hoshi the blockout on the right:
After that Mau and I did some concepts focusing certain parts of the temple:
And I concepted some props for the environment, and there's still others to do:
Next Time, there certainly will be some first researches in 3D / Texturing
Following this thread.
Good luck!!
Some new WIPs
I did a quick test to see in which direction we could go for the redering style:
And we decided an... in-between the 2 styles Something cartoonish, hand-painted but textured with high contrasts and details.
And each of us started generic assets, to train, to search for a coherence in our styles, to familiarize ourselves with the pipeline, and so on...
Hoshi:
Mau:
And Myself:
See you for the next WIPs Thanx for the support !
We know it's been a while but... well...
"That's not dead which can eternal lie" some guy said... :poly124:
Here we go:
The last concept from Mau (forgot to show it last time):
Then Mau and I did some concept for the pilot/passenger of the flying machine, but we're not still satisfied...
And we're still producing in 3D, it takes a lot of time
Hoshi:
Mau:
Mau started a big piece of work with the flying machine, still in progress:
And Myself:
And I started to assemble the assets and quickly make a lighting and some FX in Marmoset Toolbag:
Thanks for your comments and supports !
See you !
I personally also feel like there should be some color differences here if that part is going to be visible for a long time in the scene.

I feel like the colors chosen are heavily towards one side of the color wheel. (Again this is just my unprofessional advice).
The twisted vines for the ropes seem quite a bit more busy than everything else. Maybe making those just one thick vine could resolve that? just a thought, awesome work so far.
Sorry to didn't have posted more WIP recently, but we were very focused and busy to achieve this challenge
Hope you'll like it as much as we enjoyed doing it !
I've really enjoyed working on this
Hope you'll like it
Personally it was my first "next-gen / sculpting" experience in "real" production, and it was very pleasant to work that way ! I will try more environment works like this !
It's a pleasure to read that from someone who is one of your best references for cartoon-next-gen-style
(And I'm pretty sure I can talk in the name of all the team hehe )
To complete Hoshi: I also created the Lava Tile in Zbrush I'm only discovering now the power of nDo with another work we're making with Hoshi and Mau...
And if I had to do it again, I will use it much more ^^ The results are amazing !
So first of all, let me thank you for your interest !
I'm in the middle of a big move right now, but when I'll be settled, I will make a quick "step by step" asset to show how I've worked on this if you're interested !
