I’ve been amazed by this game ever since it’s announced, currently I am working with a friend, Joey Lenz on an urban environment that is overgrown with foliage. The foreground architectures are inspired by Victorian houses found all over Savannah Ga. Here is a screenshot of the wip.

A lot of work still needs to be done, the assets still needs to be vertex painted for transition, set dressing just started, and the lighting and post processing still needs to be finalized.

Texture wise, I’ve been trying to imitate Naughty Dog’s method as close as I possibly can. A majority of the textures are sculpted in zbrush between 1-2k and baked down to 512x512. Here are some samples:

Lighting wise, my friend Joey Lenz, has figured a way to simulate HDRI in UDK by converting an HDRI image in Maya into multiple directional lights and importing them into Unreal. Here is a link to vimeo of the quick test:

C&C welcome :)

It's certainly off to a strong start. It seems like there ought to be more signs of entropy on the man-made parts of the scene, though. If it were the post-apocalypse, I'd expect to see some bent signs, fallen shutters, broken sidewalk, maybe some sand leaking from the bags...stuff like that.

Soo.. you gonna share that HDRI conversion process? Inquiring minds want to know.:shifty:

Great start, this scene is starting to come alive. A couple of points would be some graffiti on the walls and barriers wouldn't go a miss, lots of rubbish/trash on the ground trodden on newspaper that sort of thing. I think you need a blending texture for the grass on the concrete path to make it more realistic looking. The seam is too harsh at the moment and a little off putting.

Overall though fantastic job, really looking forward to see this progress =)
