Render question: How to achieve Zbrush's Fibermesh look with Maya Hair?

Hi, guys! I have created some hair using fibermesh, inside Zbrush, and when I preview it with BPR, I get the following result (which I'm pretty satisfied with):

But when I export the curves to Maya, and apply the hair system, the best result I got was this (using area light, Mental Ray with 20 high Samples and "Production: Fine trace" quality preset):

Is there any way to achieve a result similar to Zbrush's, inside Maya?
