Did some silouette sketches, not quite what I want yet though
but please tell if there's one you like! ;)
    SilouetteDesign.jpg

btw, does anyone know how to change a threads name?
and if that isn't possible, how do you delete one?
so I can make a new thread with a new name when I've decided on the name of the set
or can the final set have a different name as is in your thread title?

Do not worry about the name for now keep this thread going. You want as many views and replies on your thread as possible to help promote your concept. Also I like the bottom right concept so far. It fits with the characters design the best. I am sure down the road you can submit with your new name. I do not think they are going to make you keep the name cause in the end they are trying to sell the product as well and they want the best name for it also.

I agree on the the bottom right being the best one. Though I'm not sure whether that's simply because it conveys a more clear design than the other ones without the white white lines within the silhouette...

bottom right/10th pick in the lower right corner looks the most fitting concept silhouette to me.

I was thinking the same so I went and added some color to it,
I like the glow on his wolf form so I'm going with that,
but does anyone know how to do particle effects for this?
I'm asuming it involves the Dota2 SDK which isn't released yet! =/

    SilouetteColored.jpg

this doesn't fit my original title for one bit but I was thinking of something that would be super funny and awesome at the same time and fits the title,
that he is disguised in a sheep pelt, like wolfs do in cartoons and children tales!
what do you guys think, try it out or keep it serious?

I'd say keep it serious. Everything in the original game and all the community items that have been added have carried a non-silly / serious theme that goes with the character. I don't see the wolf in sheep's clothing getting added, regardless if the execution is top notch.

@Rik: except for Tidehunter with his pirate hat, thats just on the border between serious and funny, and then you have the couriers, seen the chicken?
I'm gonna go with serious though, and maybe when my set is done and I have enough time left I'll also do a silly one, just for fun! xP

It really depends on the hero though. If you listen to some of Tide's voicelines, they're already a bit silly. He's one of the most comical heroes. Lycan on the other hand is not. I'd always suggest listening to some of the voicelines as they really give a damn good impression of the personality and design of the hero. Valve has really put a lot of work into the voice liens and it shows.

The chicken courier is a throwback to the original Dota. It's silly, but the general idea of having an animal bring you your items is silly tbh. But like Spudnik said, it's all context, lycan is a serious hero with a serious background.

    Time for an update!

here are the final compilation of silouette sketches, only two more then the previous one though
    SilouetteDesign-1.jpg

and then I went one and made some full color sketches (whit the original model at the top)
    ConceptArt_Compilation.jpg

so what do you guys think?
you can tell that I like the bottom right the most,
but I'm not sure about the weapons yet
btw, the gems stones are to give the overal look more red bc more of his red coat is covered,
but also to give him a richer look, my idear was to make him look like a lord so,
"Terror of the Wolf Lord" is the best (new) name I came up with for this set

    And now comments please!

here's the final concept and original again seperatly

    ConceptArt_Final.jpg

but now that I've started modeling i've come up with a different style,
and I'm liking it so I'm going with it,
I'm still gonna do my sketched design but more stylized in the way it turning out now,
    should look even better! xD

    WIP_screen_01.jpg

btw, it's only the top armor,
fur, weapon and belt parts that you see (also in grey) are the original items
next time I'll show all the original parts with there texture applied so it's more clear what i've made! ;)

so what do you guys think?
any comments at all would be appreciated!
bc I'm starting to doubt my concept since no one is commenting

The main issue I'm having with the concept you have here is that at least for me its too busy.I mean the 3 big elements the 2 shoulder pads and the wolf on the belt area all have the same size and in effect makes it look clunky and probably the head might not be seen from a certain angle. Now the overall silhouette is ok and I think it would read well from a top down view you just have to scale down the other elements relative to which one you would like to be your main focal point and it should be fine.

    @Pangahas: thanks for the comment!
and yeah, you got a point, the belt part isn't always gonna be visible and the shoulder guard is a bit to big,
but like I said, I'm going in an other direction now that I'm modeling so I'll see where it takes me with the design,
but thanks again for the comment and I'll keep it in mind!

I also agree the three elements are all too big and making the concept busier. Good luck with the new design though. Liking the roaring wolf theme.

@Olphelia: thanks, I'm afraid the roaring wolf theme is half way out of the door at the moment, though you just given me an idear, so thanks for that too! ^^

    so update!
added some more things, like a stylized wolfhead (inspired by unused valve concept art I must add)

    WIP_screen_03.jpg

to give more difference between the back wolf head and the one on the shoulder I'm gonna try making the back one roar (thanks to Olphelia for that little burst of inspiration!)

so what do you guys think about the new style?
a lot of hard edges and pointy bits make it look more aggresive like this guy totally is!

oh, and this was a bit older update that I forgot to post

another update, just made the wolf heads roar,
some help on deciding wich combination to go with would be great!

    WIP_screen_04-Marks.jpg

I like 2 the most, bc it adds difference between the too,
the Normal head also goes with the curve of the shoulder, wich the Roar messes up a bit,
also the roaring one at his back is to scare foes away that want to attack him in the back,
    what do you guys think?

Very nicely modeled so far, great job! I like the idea, but be careful not to put too much detail all over the hero, and remember, you need some clear area to make the hero easier to look at and recognize :)

Personally, i would chose and keep one of the two wolfheads, probably open-mouthed shoulder one is a obvious choice at first glance, but im liking the idea of the one on the back, more unique. :)

@phazeddl: thanks! and yeah, I'm gonna make the belt part less detailed and put most of the detailes on the top armor, and as you will see in my update, there will be a clear aerea on his other shoulder! ;)
and yeah, the wolf on the back has worked out quite well, I'm thinking it's a bit on the small side if viewed from above but I can't make it bigger bc off the defeault fur on the shoulder!
I'm gonna stick with 2 though, really like the spiky effect the wolf head on the shoulder guard it's adding to the silouette, I think they're gonna look different enough from each other to keep em both!

and now time for an update!
I have decided to go with a more elegant design, roman meets medieval knight, something like that

    WIP_screen_06.jpg

the weapon on the other hand is gonna be more like a sword then a claw, but still starting from his gauntlet, but I'm still working on that one!
and with the spikes on the shield he can still bash his enemies to pulp so it'll fit the animations! ;)

and for a new name, I was thinking something like: The Elegance of Brutality
    but still working on that!

    Update!
This time with non of the original gear,

    WIP_screen_07.jpg

The silouette isn't quite like the original, especially the belt part,
but also the shoulder with the cape like thing!
I'll see if I can improve that, but what do you guys think about that?
Does the silouette needs to be as close as possible to the original?
Or can there be significant differences?

    Some feedback/comments would be great!

The race to the end begins!

If started sculpting so here's an update on that:

    WIP_screen_sculpt_cape.jpg
    WIP_screen_sculpt_blade.jpg
    WIP_screen_sculpt_shield.jpg

Next to that I've also worked on my presentation.
Final name of my set will be ...

    Wolf Lord of House Ambry

And this little drawing will be the emblem of House Ambry

    HouseAmbry_InitialsShieldEmblem.jpg

Last are the names for the different slots and a little text that goes with them.
I've noticed most people don't really give names but I like it more if the slots have a story to them.
    So here they are:

    Weapon Slot - Dual Blades:

    Bloodline Enders

Like the House of Ambry was exterminated by blood,
so have these blades ended the line of succetion of multiple noble houses.
Leaving only the youngest son of the Lord alive.
Cursed by the Lycan's bite they turn into wolves.
Serving the Wolf Lord till death takes them.

Weapon Slot - Blade & Shield:

    Swift Wolf's Wrath

Sharp and deadly is the weapon of the swift wolf.
Striking fast at the weakest point in his enemies armor.
Blocking off any incoming attacks of it's prey yet to realise that it's already dead.
Their life ending in a fountain of red.

The unlucky survive the first blow.
For they are torn apart by the wolf Wrath.
Leaving them in pieces beneath the ruble of it's fallen tower.

    Shoulder Slot:

    Monarch Despoiler

Noble Symbol of the House of Ambry.
    Drapped around chest and shoulder.
Ripped off by the Blooded hands of a Monarch.

What once had the color of ivory.
    Is now colored in vengeance/revenge.

    Armor slot:

    Pack Master

Leader of the pack, the Lycan is unchallanged by even the fiercest of wolfs.
The dark magic running trough his veins giving him power beoned reckoning.
An immense bulk that crushes his foes and tears down castles.
A strong will and mind of a true noble Lord.
Serenity of wolfs in his eyes.
He is at all times aware of the forest around him.
So never try to bite the Lycan's neck from behind.
For you will know the true face of terror.

    Belt slot:

    Ambry's Lost Heir

Youngest son of the Lord of the House.
Left behind, the last of his bloodline.
Blessed with a curse, Banehallow wanders the forests.
    In search of vengeance.
Never able to claim his true place.
The Lord of a lost House.

    Head slot:

    Bane's Howl

The sound of death drawing near.
A howl heard on the entire field of battle.
For some, the noble music of a victory already won.
For others, a terrifying scream that makes even the heavens weep in fear.
    But to all is clear.
It is the foreboding of a massacre.

Hey, thanks for the comment, I was getting a bit afraid no one like it!
So a big thanks and yeah, the cape sculpt came out very good, glad you like it!

Now an update on low poly version and WIP textures:

    WIP_screen_tex_01.jpg

The 4 above are for the tex, only normal maps and basic color try outs for the diffuse maps.
The left below is the dual blade version I'm also gonna put in the set for if anyone doesn't want the shield, just the blades!
Finally right below are wireframes of the LP's

I've already done the LOD's aswell but that's a bit boring to post
Let me know if you want to see those anyway and I'll post them too

So comments wanted on the color distribution off the diffuse.
Oh and the ivory cloth things are getting all blooded in red like the cape! ;)

As the deadline grows ever closer, here's another update on the textures!
All except the top armor are pretty final,
    A view comments:
this is without the mask textures
and the lightning isn't optimal so some areas show to dark,
on the shoulder guard wolf head the black spot is thanks to that

    WIP_screen_tex_02.jpg

Skins are all done aswell, except for the LOD1's off the cape and belt pieces,
maybe gonna leave those out since they aren't really needed for the close up,
    we'll see!

so now I'm working on the final top armor color texture,
    next are the mask textures,
then if I have enough time left an extra simple part for his head which I've already done a sculpt for,
    maybe the extra skins
    and then presentation!
