3ds Max: Why can't I transform vertices that lie along a symmetry plane?

Hey! I'm new to this whole ordeal of modeling and such, and while working with 3ds max, I notice I can't transform vertices that lie on planes of symmetry. Well, this is causing some issues, since that center vertex can tend to be kind of important. Are there ways to work around/with this? Or better, to transform the vertex directly?

EDIT: After reading around, further, I think I've found my issue. I was keeping the primitive with an edit poly modifier, instead of converting the whole thing, deleting half, and then applying symmetry. So I had overlap that preventing me from selecting the vertex. Thanks, anyway! :D
