Weird Normal issue

Hello everybody,
I am getting this weird normal issue in 3ds max once I hit ctrl+ z from example to undo a vertex delete.
I tried resetting the Xform, deleting any smoothing groups and applying a new Mat, but that doest seem to work. What works is actually the Normal modifier. However after that it kinda messes with my topology and the mesh is diffrent. It also doesnt allow me to change the material settings anymore, such as adding more specularity.

I am pretty new to 3ds max (i am more Maya native) but I am trying to learn it for a future job maybe. So the issue might just be really easy to fix - noob here :P
