Photoshop Alpha Problem

I hava a problem with the alpha channel within photoshop. when i copy something into the alphachannel( especially with low contrast), photoshop seems to dither the source image. my gueuss is: even if the alpha stores true 8bit, ps seems to work with less depth and therefore dither it. anybody has a workaround for this?
i attached a picture for better understanding.

Oh wow, that looks like a bug. It happens when you paste into RGB channels as well.

Go to Edit->Color Settings and turn off "Use Dither 8-bit/channel images"

hey mike, you rock. that solved it. thanks a lot.(why the heck does adobe sets that option by default on dither..?!?)
