I am confused about how to make these two work together. I've watched tutorials about how to make LOD meshes by deleting geometry within the UV islands but none of these tutorials mentions the lightmap UVs. When I'm creating the LODs my lightmap UVs just become a broken mess. Am I missing something here?
For whatever reason, I was under the assumption that you no longer needed to map out a 2nd UV channel when using lightmass. But I've read through some threads on the forum and I'm seeing that people are indeed manually laying out their lightmap UV on channel 2 for meshes. For some of the stuff I've worked on recently in…
Hi folks! I've been trying for a while now to get the lightmaps working on my modular building set. It's really not that fancy, but for some strange reason I really can't get it to look good. I've attached some screenshots. Maybe you can figure it out why it might not look that good. The Lightmap-Resulution is @ 128. In…
I don't know if it's a direct cause but the UV's you have for your lightmaps aren't terribly efficient. I'd try re-mapping the second channel with fewer UV islands and fewer seams. The fewer seams you have in your lightmap UVs the fewer opportunities for bleeding and splotches you'll have. Remember lightmaps have no…
Hi, I need to submit lightmap generated by UDK. Sorry to be an idiot, but I have no clue how to do it, did a general search on C drive, can't find the file. RMB click the lightmap then clicked export to files. But when I get to the folder, can't find the file at all.
Hello everyone. Just a quick one here to get some feedback on why i am having issues with these shadows. The shadows cast onto this wooden boat by a dominant directional light seem to have banding in them and are not smooth: The boat is a static mesh and has a second uv channel for its lightmaps shown here, and even when…
We have just released Newtonian Follower for Lightwave, free for single seat users, along with several other plugins for Lightwave. With Newtonian Follower, you can link one object to another and have the sibling react with Newtonian physics, which can be great in bone chains for creating secondary motion in a character…
I've created several levels from start to finish but have never had a lightmap look as bad as some of the shots I'm about to show you. It's been a while since I've done baking and Lightmass so I may be missing a very important step, so I'll tell you what I've done up to this point. Hopefully with a better understanding…
Hi! Did you create manual lightmap UVs? Doing so, you could add another loop in the flat area and then lightmap UV the whole opening as a straightened strip. You could probably ditch the bevel and let the baked lighting do the edge smoothing. The other way would be to simply increase lightmap resolution. Share the mesh if…
I'm having a difficult time applying a baked out lightmap to my scene in 3ds Max 2011. Basically, I have a plane with a concrete tile on it. I want to apply my lightmap on top of it and multiply like in photoshop. I can use only shaders that are in Max and should be viewable in viewport. Here's a simplified example...…
