Depends on the Max version you are using there's a bug in the AVI output module, which produces broken AVI files when the file size exceeds 1GB. We use contractors who do this. We get errors with their files all the time. They use the Color Map node (not supported in 2016). When you use 2017 to "Save As 2016" it doesn't remove or convert it into something 2016 understands. So, the material breaks. We also get a Mass FX version warning, thankfully that's harmless.
In 3ds max 2010 we could easily fix seams or do photo-realistic texture painting using viewport canvas. by capturing viewport, open it into photoshop, fix seams or make changes and update texture. now I'm trying 3ds max 2011 and I could not find any tools to do something like that. all available tools just lets me paint…
