Hello people, i've been lurking a lot but this is pretty much my first post. I've modeled a house with 3dsmax and rendered in vray and would like critics on this, the design is by Simeon Patarozliev
The first thing I noticed was the lighting. What's supposed to be lighting the house? is it the sun? It looks like there's a spotlight pointed directly at the front of the house.
You have the rocks beside the house kind of block the view, but it looks very unnatural. I'd either pick an angle where this isn't as obvious, or more ideally, make some sort of backdrop.
the light was supposed to be some sort of yellowish car lights, parked in front of the house, but you're right, the viewer has absolutely no idea there's one right there.
thanks for the constructive criticism, this was my first attempt at V-ray, i'll try to have a better view on my next one and maybe add a more complex background with curved landscape, rocks and trees
I did not aim for a realistic scene by any means (it was my first serious attempt at Vray with 3ds Max), I appreciate your help and will reply with the perspective view by tonight when I'll be home
For the lights I used an HDRI copied from the background (pasted on a dome with inward normals for sky texture), as well as a plane in front of the house + a sphere in the lamp
Assuming you are following this, http://www.digitaltutors.com/11/tutor.php?id=186789, then your lighting is missing the purple he creates in his scene. I would rewatch the lighting part to make sure you are following what he is doing.

And post a screen of your Scene, Light setup, and are you using Global illumination?
The render looks cartoony, is that what you were going for?
