First post approval

Hey,

I wanted to point out what seems to be a flaw with the new users first post having to be approved.

From what I can tell when the post has been approved it is going to retain it's original time that it was posted by the author. This means that if the approval takes a day or two the post will most likely be off the first page in it's sub-forum and will therefor probably never be seen by the broad mass.

Not saying that the approval is a bad thing. But maybe a way to fix this? Maybe the moderator can also update the time-stamp on the post to the current time or something?

This might just be me being delusional. If this is the case then just ignore me :)

I've noticed similar. In my Polycount Pack threads and in my TF2:1850 thread, a lot of new users were posting because they'd been attracted from places like Facepunch, SPUF and Kotaku and their posts would appear after two pages of posts after theirs had already gone by.

I'm not sure what the most elegant solution would be. Maybe a single stickied thread that only new users could post in while awaiting verification? I don't know how feasible that would be.

kodde, we generally go through the moderation process at least once a day, and considering a lot of the admins/mods are in different time zones, we can catch these fairly early and sort them out without it being an issue. And considering there are a few of us, this process can occur multiple times a day.

There are times when it goes a day or two before posts gets approved and yes, they do slip down a page or two. If the thread in question is important or seemingly urgent "WHY R MAH NORMALZ BROKEDED.. LOLOL1!1!!", I will generally bump the thread myself with a potential answer or to encourage others to answer. If it's a WIP thread, then chances are the OP will post new work which will bump the thread and people will see it at some point.

The first post approval process is in place to catch spam, trolls and banned users who create clone accounts. This process works because we manage to clean at least 95% of the crap (unfortunately some slip through) so everyone else doesn't have to deal with it and it doesn't flood the boards with useless threads (we have enough as it is :P).

Emil> I see. I am very grateful that you do take time to take care of the approvals. Don't get me wrong.

Reason I brought this up was that I encouraged one of my students to post a question here. It took a while before it got approved and by the time it did it was already on the second page (as far as I can tell).

I bumped the thread back up to first page myself. But just wanted to point this out.

As long as people don't mind that the author bumps the thread then that is also a way to go in this pretty rare(?) scenario.
