Intro

Brian "EvilBastard" Collins created the Sydney plugin player as female model that would be more feminine than the original Quake 2 female model without mimicking the overtly sexual nature of Paul Steed's controversial Crackwhore model.

Originality

There is definitely a lack of realistic female humanoid models in the Quake 2 community. What's especially interesting about this model is that it's the first Quake 2 model I've seen that uses two pistols rather than a single weapon.

The Model

The model is high quality, but the polygon count is a tad high. It exceeds the overall counts for both the default female model and the Crackwhore.

There are two small flaws that were apparent in this model. One is that Sydney has most of her fingers fused together with the index finger broken off to pull the pistol triggers, so most of the divisions between fingers exist only in the skin. The second flaw is, well, her breasts. Brian gave Sydney nearly the same figure as his previous model, the Winter's Faerie. (Whether this is an overreaction to the Crackwhore's generous proportions or merely a reflection of his modelling style I cannot say.) This isn't necessarily obvious in screenshots, as the skin does a great job of covering this up. Unfortunately, from certain angles the the combined skin and model gives the appearence that she's wearing some kind of defective Wonder Bra.

Score: Eight

The Animations

"EvilBastard" states that he used "PuppetMaster" to do the animations. This makes sense, as all the animations have a puppet-like quality to them. They all look somewhat rigid and lack the fluidity of natural movement. The taunt animations are mostly a series of tricks Sydney does with her two pistols. In one, she twirls her guns like a gunslinger. They're somewhat amusing, and there's not much she can do with her hands while holding two guns. (Oop! Didn't mean that in the Crackwhore sense!) :)

Score: Eight

The Skin

Sydney comes with 3 skins. One is the default, and the other two are CTF skins. The default skin is fabulous, and (as I mentioned) covers the model's flaws nicely. The CTF skins, however, are simply copies of the original skin tinted read and blue with the CTF logos on the back, so I can't give a full five stars.

Score: Eight

Sounds

Sydney doesn't come with her own sounds, so you'll have to copy them from the female model.

Visible Weapons Support

Sydney does not support the Visible Weapons patch, and since her weapons are two pistols, it's difficult to say if support could be added.

Pack Inclusion

Sydney is fairly tall compared to the male and female models, who only come to about her neck. Also, her center of gravity sits a little farther back than the default models. However, these are only minor problems, so Sydney will be included in the next Pack.

MegaPack Info

Thanks to Selflove from Notrix, there's a whole new Sydney pack to frag with. This zip is jam-packed with add-on goodies... It includes:

More skins than you can shake a stick at and they've been reskinmapped to fix the original "errors". - How many skins you ask..?? "More well than you can imagine." "I don't know, I can imagine quite a lot!"A full soundpack.Standard viewable weapons.Action Quake2 viewable weapons.
