Intro

The character for the model's base is Rei Ayanami from the anime series "Neon Genesis Evangelion." See the link below for more info on Neon Gen. The anime can be a bit thick and that sort of description isn't what we're here for. The model is also based on the Winter Faerie model, which the author freely admits.

Originality

Originality...this is a hard one to judge. The character is based off of a Japanese anime. The model is based on the Winter Faerie with a few changes to the hair to try to simulate the hair style of the anime character. The animations are unmodified from the Winter Faerie's. With this all taken into account, the originality scores on the low end. But as the choice of character, this is some what better. Knowledge of Japanese anime is a fuzzy realm in the states. This tends to make the model a little fresher than it could have been.

The Model

There isn't much to talk about that wasn't covered in the Winter Faerie review. The only changes are that the wings have been clipped and the hair has been modified. The long hair of the original was simply crushed up into the head and the side strands bent a little to try to approach character's style. This wasn't quite as successful as it could have been. Also as I'm familiar with the anime quite well, its seems that the author missed a nice opportunity to add a few details to the model around the lower ribs and the backpack. It can be argued that this wasn't done to shave polys. However due to the rest of the model, I tend to doubt this. In scoring this, I docked him a letter grade for starting with an existing model, and two model for the simple changes or lack of them.
Score: Four

The Animations

The animations are completely unchanged from before. I understand that this could be the the fact that that this is the author's first model. But this isn't the case. It is his first modified model outside of the Q2 monster conversions he's done. He seems to be very good at adapting premade models. However, this doesn't help his overall score here. I gave him 2, same as above for consistencies sake.
Score: Four

The Skin

The skins aren't too bad. He's included CTF skins as well. There was an earlier version of these made by Isamu & Icy. However the ones shown above are what he offers as the latest skins on his homepage. The base skin is a bit cartoonish, but then that's what the character is :) I would have liked to see a few more levels of gradient to let the appearance be a bit closer to the same level as the Q2 context. Overall, they get the job done and make the model the recognizable character its supposed to be. 4 stars on this one.
Score: Eight

Sounds

I must confess the skin and the sounds are what makes me keep Rei on just about every team I play against with the Eraser Bot plugin. I've also made her a very unskilled player, as all her pain and death sounds are absolutely too adorable. This part of the model is perfect. I'd recommend to anyone who likes to do BotDM that they grab Rei. She's just too much fun to stop killing her. 5 stars.

Pack Inclusion

Rei will be included in the next pack. The model meets all the requirements easily. It is available for download separately, as well.

Here's a few shots of Rei, right before I made turkey stuffing out of her.
