Intro
This is the classic flying saucer alien, "accidentally spatially displaced into a deathmatch." Usually when I review a model, most of the copy is spent justifying penalized stars (well, the model has this problem...and the stand animations aren't so good...etc).
This (rather short) review took forever to write because without flaws to describe, there is actually very little to talk about - and this model is nearly flawless.
Originality
5 stars for an idea that is out of this world (ouch).
Score: Ten
The Model
This guy is the epitome of a quake 2 model. His polygon count is reasonable, and the detail is gorgeous - down to the individual fingers. It would be tempting to penalize a star for using a standard weapon model, but the author plans to eventually add VWep support - so such use is more than reasonable. Grey does lose a star for being very short.
Score: Eight
The Animations
The animations are technically flawless and full of character. The grey moves in a very conventional, yet very alien manner that must be seen frame by frame to be fully appreciated.
Score: Ten
The Skin
While the skin is (like the rest of this model) well done, it is a pain in the ass to play against. Greys skin blends rather nicely into the standard floors and walls of many of the Quake2 levels. I suspect that Grey is a lot easier to fight against using a hardware renderer with a 16 bit palette, but us software weenies have it tough against this guy.
Score: Nine
Sounds
Grey comes with no sounds.
Visible Weapons Support
None.
Pack Inclusion
Grey is in. Barely. This guy is exactly as short as you can expect a model to be while still being fair to play against, and even in this case it was a judgement call.
