Model Description
From the readme file:
"Chuckie Finster is the neurotic two-year old carrot top from the Nickelodeon series Rugrats. He's not yet adept at kicking the collective asses of the Stroggs, or getting gibbed in a heated deathmatch, but I'm sure he'll get used to it.
Other info : This is my first Quake 2 PPM. I did Chuckie's mesh and animations in Animation: Master, optimized him in 3DSMax and QME, mapped his skin using NST, and painted his skins with Paint Shop Pro. When I exported Chuckie from Animation: Master, he had 1197 polys, but after heavy optimization, I managed to lower the polycount to 1075. The one-handed VWEP I constructed for Chuckie is universal; any future
modeler may use it for their his or her own PPMs, as long as he or she gives me credit for it. If I ever decide to make any future Quake 2 PPMs, I will use this VWEP if appropriate."
The Model:
7 of 10
A bit of a high poly model for its time, at 895, he's got a lot of
surface area. Some of that goes into the hair which he modeled with some
degree of success. However, he still comes across as a bit blocky over
all for the count. The one bit about this model that you still don't see
to this day is modeled eyes. This gave the artist a whole range of extra
expression with this tactic. A good portrayal of the character in
bringing it from the 2d screen to 3d world.
The Animations: 8 of 10
Here the author clearly demonstrates his potential as an animator.
The model does come to life in a way that is believable as the
character. He finches during the firing animation and crawls around on
his hands and knees during the crouches. The eyes are animated through
out adding to personality of the model. The only real faults are located
at some of the joints as he moves. Some nasty sheering and bending is
going on. With the cartoonish skins you don't notice this much, but it
really could be better. A few faults but a ton of life, thumbs up.
The Skins: 4 of 10
Granted some of the skins are directly influenced from the cartoon.
But some of the texture sheering and blending is just unsightly. He does
provide us with a good selection of skins, but they are all a bit poor
in quality. Perhaps some more strategic use of the texture space and
repeat use of texture space could have helped.
The Sounds: 7 of 10
Cuts from the show and a decent selection at that. I wouldn't expect
him to use anything but that so he's really made the best of the
situation. A few volume variations like we normally see as the cuts
probably came from a few different sources.
The Conclusion 6 of 10
A surprisingly decent model once you look past the skins. A lot of
life and potential speak inside this model. He's also FULLY stocked with
Vweps as well. Those are all various toy guns, but they are experiencing
a bad case of the Q2 vert boiling. But its another factor showing off a
decent effort by the artist.
