Intro
From the readme file:
In search of tellemarketers Bun-Bun switchblade in hand has come to q2
Other info : based on cute little Bunny from Sluggy Freelance
I hope you guys at the pmp know i busted my @$$ to get a low poly count and have it fit the bounding box
I'm sure Rogue13 and the gang know about that! (-_^)
The Model
This model is somewhat very small! In comparison to the female, it could hardly reach the knees! If I could remember from Rogue13, the idea is to fill the bounding box as much as you could while trying to restrict yourself to go beyond it. That means that in a certain perspective, you couldn't hit BunBun unless if you were ducking. However, due to the bounding box rules, the blaster bullets could go a little above his head and still get hit! Another thing is that I don't see any ears or limbs for him except on the skin mesh. So I give this section 2 and a half stars for the model itself.
Score: Five
The Animations
Let's start in the beginning with the normal animations! The stand scene looks like he is dragging himself on the floor. The run scenes are ok but for some reason, he happens to be a knee-bit higher from the ground when he is running. The attack scenes are ok with the slashing! But if switch knives could shoot, then that would be interesting! The first two pain scenes look normal (side and head pain) but the third one is hard to understand... it looks like he's moving like Jell-O. The jump scenes are normal for this model like any ordinary jump. Death1 and death2 scenes looks like he's tipping over like a teapot. Death3 is like most normal male-model deaths; back first death. The crouch, crouch walk, crouch pain, and crouch death are the same as the normal stand, walk, pain, and death1 except that they are scaled about half as smaller.
Then we go to the fun-a-mations, as I call it because these are automatically binded in Quake2! It lets you do strange things! First is the FlipOff; instead of your traditional finger we see him doing a strange looking backflip which is somewhat ok. The salute scene shows him flipping his sword in the air which looked cool. The taunt scenes shows him acting like a clown and balancing the switchknife on his nose; my favorite animation of this model! The wave scene shows him standing in his hind legs (if he had any) and waving like normal. The point scenes make him look cartoony because lots of cartoon characters jump up in the air and point towards the target; that's what BunBun does, except that he becomes a long poly object when doing so! That's the end of the fun-a-mations.
In conclusion I give the animations a 3 and a half stars for the neat fun-a-mations!
Score: Seven
The Skin
Being a small model, It could be really easy to map this model and really easy to make skins for it! The basic 4 skins that come with it are quite ok. However, it's basically simple coloring of each skin! There's not much of shading of that sort. But they almost look like the original ones from the comic (except the comic's version is round, this one is looks a little jagged). I give it a 3 for the skins.
Score: Six
Sounds
There are no sounds in this pack but I heard from Luppy that he either is going to have his dad do it, or have a contest for making sounds for BunBun. It's just rumors right now...
Visible Weapons Support
There are no VWEP models of any kind in the model as of right now...
Pack Inclusion
Due to it's very small size people would find it very hard to hit it in reality! And most people would hate it. By the looks of it, and the reactions at the Message Boards, it wouldn't be a great idea to put this model in the model pak.
So in conclusion: no, it shouldn't be in the model pak. More than just telemarketers will soil their pants
Addendum 1
Model and Skin Permissions
(usually found in the bottom of the README.TXT files)
MODEL: UNKNOWN - It is not known if you can use the model as a base to make other models.
SKINS: UNKNOWN - It is not known if you are aloud to make skins for this models or use it's current skins to make other skins.
Please contact the author for information on this.
Addendum 2
As more advanced modelers and reviewers have noted, this review is a bit skewed. I'm personally unclear on the reviewer's motivations or reasoning behind his scoring. I shall offer a condensed version of my own.
In my own opinion this model rates a big fat 1 star. It works. If a model works in an area, it starts off with a one and accumulates points from there. The model would actually get a half star for it's small size in the modeling section. However with the animations and skins, I'd give it a full star in each, so rounding up = 1 star. Luckily the author left the sounds off as if he repeated his work on the Luptonium Logo review model, he surely would have dropped to a half star total score or further.
I see no reason why anyone would need/want to download this model other that the small clique that actually knows Luppy, and maybe those interested in the fact that anyone can do a model if they actually put their mind to it no matter what resources or programs they have. Quality is a matter of practice however.
Addendum 3
Intro: Bun-Bun is NOT OF RELEASABLE QUALITY. It's a pity the author was too stupid/proud/blind to realize this, as loading the Q2PMP into one's browser and finding that the much-awaited update concerns either a model post or a review that cannot by any reasonable standard be worth dealing with is a bit of a letdown to say the least. It's sort of like not getting email all week and then being sent spam from a credit card company offering you a preapproved card at a low, low 39% introductory rate. Please, people ... just finishing something does not necessarily mean you should release it. Look at the garbage dump that is cdrom.com (you can have a field day with this just in the skins directory alone) and you'll see what I mean. Garbage is meant to be thrown away ... NOT uploaded. It's your civic duty to be sensible about this, and honest about your work.
The Model: Excessively simple and nondescript. This is either a problem with a lazy modeler or boring subject matter, but it makes for a non-entity of a sculpture in any case. Unidentifiable as a PPM for the most part in-game. Certainly not worth downloading for artistic merit. Quite unplayable on the functional side of things, given exceptionally poor visibility and the obvious problems with the bounding box that the author was so careful to ... uhmm ... avoid? 1/2 star because anything less would require a new graphic.
The Animations: Slightly better than the model. At least you can say that there is not much you can do with a featureless lump of mesh, but on the other hand that isn't the player's problem. Nothing eye-catching by any stretch of the imagination, even taking the mesh-defined limitations to creativity into consideration, if you want to. 1 star or less.
The Skin: Boring, inept, and vague. 1/2 star.
Pack Eligibility: Why not? He finished the model, so obviously it must be a perfect candidate for mass-distribution! There are so few models being released these days that the only requirement the community has for releasing work publicly is to make sure it includes at least one skin and that the number of frames match those of the id models! No, really!
That's all we need! Chumps like EvilBastard, Magarnigal, AlphaWolf and Gwot are just wasting their time with all that "quality" nonsense ... suckers!
(3 STARS??!!! What the hell is wrong with you?)
