Intro
To begin with, this model is based on the
Hunter model. [see below] Personally like the Hunter model
better than any of the player models that came with Quake 2.
In fact, this is the model that I compare all other models to.
Bravo to the model creator of the Hunter model Michael "Magarnigal'
Mellor. The Alien model is a modification of the Hunter model
to resemble the famous alien of the famous movie series. It is
a very good job also. I use this model all the time, and
not just because I'm a big Aliens fan. This is one of the
better models out there.

The
Model
It is absolutely gorgeous! The Hunter's claw hand
is visible, it very well done, it looks very mean. The claw
has the weapon attached to it, which is a very tiny little
thing. The head is so cool looking. However, I do
remember the alien having open cheeks on the sides of it's
mouth like a dog rather than a human like mouth, but I will not
subtract for this, that is a artistic decision. The rest of the body
are excellent also. The only cause for concern about this
model is it's high polygon count, but the miniscule weapon size
makes up for it. The bony protrusions on the back look very much
like the character from the movie and are well animated and fit onto
the model. The tail's lacks a few polygons it could have used,
which affected the animations.

Nine
The
Animations
Before I start gushing over the
animations, I have got to say that the fact that I compare all other
models to the hunter models may be unfair to the people that make
models. This guy is so animated I think someone should give
him some Ritalin. This guys stand animation is him flexing for
the camera and other poses, and it looks great. His running
animation, though slightly effeminate, is also very smooth and fits
the character. His taunt animations go a little outside the
bounding box, but that is okay because they are so well done.
In one he does a Roman salute, one he points at his opponent and in
another he flips his weapon in the air. The death animations
are among the best I have ever seen. Hunter's body contorts
from the force of impact in a way that looks as if bones have been
definite broken. The portrayal of a lifeless body is very
believable. The pain animations also have that sense of the
blast forcing movement. These animations are very
believable. The only flaws I noticed is the fact that that the
tail is very stiff, and in the stand animation the polygons in the
mouth contort in a way that makes the entire mouth rotate to the
left while retaining it's shape, annoying little
grievances.
Score:
Nine
The Skin
The
skins are very detailed and very textured. The skins are very
reminiscent of the alien from the movies. There are ever CTF
skins, which are very easy to pick out who's on what team, the
entire alien is either red or blue. I saw no problem with
these skins.
Score:
Eight
SoundsThe sound on this model fit the
model well. Although the sound quality could have been a
little better, they were lifted from a movie. The sounds are
the sounds of the alien in the movie attacking, hissing, and in
general being a unpleasant fellow.
Score:
Eight
Visible
Weapons SupportUnfortunately, there is no visible
weapons support. But hopefully there will be soon, the author
did mention a small blurb about possibly doing a visible weapons
pack for this model.
Pack
EligibilityWith out a doubt alien is eligible
for the next pack.
