Hey, I figure with all this sad news as of late (rip Adam) I thought it would be cool to brighten our spirits up with a fricken awesome game, Trine. They released their demo (i believe) today, and I just went through it and its great. A mix between platformer, hack and slash, and puzzler with some really great environments (character design is pretty nice, I'm liking the Knight the best).
Give it a go if you have some time, defiantly a buy for me when it comes out.

Downloading the demo now...
I want to try multiplayer! It reminds me of LBP.
I wonder how many levels there are, and if there is a level editor or plans for custom content... I hope so! I will probably buy it either way
I hope the multiplayer holds up as well.
A bit curious as to why they released the demo before the game though. Generally not a good idea as far as maximizing sales goes to my knowlege. Plus I wanted to play the full thing when I finished the demo.
Bwah? It's pretty standard practice to lead with a demo... for exactly the reason you mention at the end there.
Just played the demo thanks to this thread and loved it. Will definitely buy.
What reason I mentioned at the end?
I dunno, I've heard that with Indy games it can be detrimental to release a demo early because the people who play your demo and will go straight to buy the game on impulse while it's fresh in their mind won't nessesarily buy it, or even remember it in two weeks or a month or whatever.
Though I didn't realize there was a pre-order for this at first.
Personally I think demos just increase the hype for a game, as long as it's a solid game. The only time marketing doesn't want a demo released is when the game isn't very solid and is resting on undeserved hyped. In these cases it's also common to have an embargo on the reviews to keep them riding high a bit longer.
"The only time marketing doesn't want a demo released before the full game is when the game isn't very solid and is resting on undeserved hype."
A good demo will bring in wary consumers who have been burnt by the hype-train before, but only if it is solid. Releasing a mediocre demo is a death sentence (ex. Bionic Commando). Marketing dept has to know whether the game really is solid or not, from an objective standpoint, so they can make that call.
Then again my experience is with large titles, not small indie stuff, so maybe the rules change.
holy shit. that sold me on the game.
single player was fun, though I'm wondering how co op will work? does that mean multiple characters on the screen at once? I hope so! but then at the same time, how would you get past certain sections?
Check out steam and get yourself a copy... and if there is co-op, lets get some green lovin' going on!
found these posted by the devs in their forums;
"PC multiplayer will be at first only on same computer. You can use keyboard+mouse and game pads (possible also multiple keyboards and mice, but we have to look into that). A good game pad which should be found anywhere is a normal Xbox360 game pad."
and
"Trine multiplayer features have been created with PS3 in mind. While online co-op would be more than perfect for consoles too, it's been a decision we had to make in order to be able to create otherwise a very good game. Without this sacrifice the whole game would sucked, and if it would, no-one would noticed the online features anyway"
oh well~ Its still a decent single player game ;o
Honestly though, this game is so beautiful and full of awesomeness that I honestly don't mind. If this does well for them, they know that in later "sequels", they should include online co-op.
I still can't get over how beautiful the environments are, I think I may have to take a stab at something like this in the coming months.
I hope this game does well for them.
not if there were levels designed for coop puzzles... (which there probably isnt considering the main focus is single player )
I'm assuming you haven't tried co op...
it's a LOT harder than SP relying on people, but it's still a hella lot of fun. takes more thinking honestly. not everyone can traverse super easily (poor wizard)
can't wait for the online patch. buying the full now methinks.
I'll be picking this up for sure!
Said they're still in the negative with this game so they can't afford to code networking
I think this game would be awesome over network. It sucks trying to plug in 2 key boards and 2 mice to one machine and play.
I played the demo before it came out, ready to buy... But then it was priced at 20$...
I've been waiting for it to come down in price like this. Just about finished the game today.
I definitely recommend it game for the 5$!
We used to play at my old studio during our lunch breaks. We'd connect 3 xbox 360 controllers and just do local co-op. Fun as hell!
The wizard rules!
