(For those in Los Angeles and Orange County)

Gamers For Good's gonna be at Griffith Park this Saturday (August 19) to learn how to better serve the local homeless communities in LA, and help solve the crisis that is people not having homes.

If you want to learn how to help your fellow neighbors, this is a great place to do that! Learn how to make hygiene kits you can give to neighbors, etc.

I am also the LA/OC Area Service Lead for Gamers For Good, so if you have any questions about this, G4G, or future events, I would love to answer them.

    Gamers for Good will be volunteering at the Good+ Foundation warehouse.Volunteers are the heart of GOOD+ Foundation to keep administrative costs low by donating their time to help the small staff sort, stuff and bundle the 2 million+ items we receive each year.

    GOOD+ Foundation (formerly Baby Buggy) is a nonprofit organization that partners with a national network of leading programs to break the cycle of family poverty through the power of essential children’s products and life-changing family services.
    GOOD+ Foundation selects programs that have demonstrated a capacity to address family poverty in three focus areas: supporting new mothers, investing in early childhood, and engaging fathers.

    G4G is going to One Voice's Holiday Program.

    There are multipled days and opportunities to help with the efforts. We are primarily focusing on the event on Saturday morning.

    https://www.onevoice-la.org/holiday-program/

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Each year our Holiday Food Program provides Christmas food baskets, toys and books to 2,500 families (12,500 people) living in poverty in the Los Angeles area. All of the families are referred through the Head Start Program and meet federal and state mandated poverty levels.

    In the spirit of the holidays, each child receives books and toys given personally by Santa and every family takes home a basket overflowing with all the makings of a wonderful holiday meal: a turkey, rolls, carrots, squash, potatoes, yams, onions, rice, beans, bags of apples and oranges, candy, a fresh apple pie and canned goods.

    Our Holiday Food Program is dependent on the support and involvement of people living within our community. Over 2,000 volunteers come together at the Barker Hangar to sort and package the food during the week before the actual giveaway, and most importantly, are on hand at our various Head Start distribution centers to personally give out the food with a sense of caring and family involvement.

    Living in poverty is especially hard during the holidays when there are no resources to make the holiday special. The food, toys, books and celebration provided by the One Voice volunteers bring much needed hope to families living in poverty that lasts well beyond the holiday season.

    //How We Do It//

    The Holiday Food Program takes place over the course of 4 days and nights. The first night over 2,000 volunteers gather at the Barker Hangar to sort food for our 2,500 families.

    The second night we fill food boxes and load the over 5,000 boxes and bags of food into trucks that will go to the various distribution centers throughout Los Angeles. These are fun and festive nights with music playing as people celebrate coming together to help others in need.

    On Saturday volunteers help deliver the food and toys to the 7 distribution centers.

    Sunday is the actual giveaway day when the families arrive and are greeted by hundreds of volunteers who give out the food, toys and books with hugs and warmth as we welcome the parents and children into the One Voice family.
