Female Stylized Character WIP

Hi guys, first post so go easy on me.

Currently working on a female character for portfolio and getting to the point where i could really use some feedback, I've evidently not really touched the feet as of yet, wanting to get everything dynameshed together asap and start working on the face more and hair. Struggled with trying to get the nose and lips close to the concept. Aiming to follow this great concept by Carolane Bruneau at least loosely.

i would highly recommend finding anatomical reference, even if stylized your proportions are all over the place, the hands seem really small, the distance between the bottom of the rib cage and the pelvic gurdle seems too long

Might be easier to get believable proportions if you used box primitives instead of sculpting it all out from the start. Feels like you're trying to get into the details too quickly.

i did use primitives from the start to block out different areas, these have just been dynameshed together over time. But i get the general consensus that the proportions are all off so i'll work on these over the next few ours and update you later today. thanks for the feedback

It's a bit of an improvement but it still looks like your jumping ahead of yourself here, I would recommend gathering a lot more reference related to the anatomy, proportion and the art style you're going for, the concept is cool but you shouldn't feel restricted by it. If I were you I'd go back to working with primitives and try again.

i think i more just need to know what people would change as i'm evidently struggling to see the issues, i'm gonna keep at it a bit longer with more reference and if i don't get anywhere i'll switch to something else.

Hey @robscaife776! I think the silhouette and the stylized anatomy is still giving you a little bit of trouble. Even stylized anatomy needs to keep realistic anatomy in mind, so having your anatomy references next to your work is really recommended. I'm definitely not an anatomical expert but I tried to make a rough paint-over with the smudge tool to show you what I mean.

Without focusing on the features you can see how important the silhouette of the character is for a first read. From here you can check if certain limbs are the right size. In your character's case, I think you had the head and neck a little too large and thick, and the hands were very small. Her legs could be longer and the hips should be no narrower than her shoulders (if not wider) when working on a female character.

If you wanna make Livvy closer to the original concept's proportions at that point, you can thicken up her limbs and maybe make the head a little larger, but I think it would help to try and keep it as aesthetically pleasing as you can. Those are some more subtle improvements but I think you're moving in the right direction, @robscaife776. I think you should still to simplify it further for this stage and get everything proportional before you put in any detail. Look up some good muscle anatomy and check to see how the obliques, the lats, and the pecs all interact with each other. You'll also want to find landmarks for where to put the knees and get the major shapes showing up properly before you add more style and character stuff in. I hope that makes sense and that you keep working at it! Make sure to take your time to get it looking right so you don't trip yourself up later on in the process.
