MayaLt Mirror Issues [solved]

Hello,

Been following along with a tutorial and I am supposed to mirror this column that I cut in half (vertically) along the Y-axis. However, I have messed with all the available settings and either it mirrors negatively through its base or it completely clips itself. Not sure what's going on. All the object history has been deleted like the tutorial said and this is my second iteration trying to do this.

Below is what it looks like. Changing the direction or Axis position only result in either nothing / clipping itself out.

I've been using K_MIrror for some time now, and I find that I have to take the object out of a group, otherwise I get that effect. I tried a few ways just now with regular mirror and can't replicate that behavior, but that's my only suggestion.

Hm, i'll look into K_mirror after I complete these tutorials and feel more grounded with the program. I'm surprised by how hard is to find a solution for this, so far none of my google searches have helped. The only things of significance that I performed on the object that I think could be related is that I moved the pivot point to the bottom vertex of the cylinder where all the edges intersect and then I moved the object to the center of the grid and centered it.

When you switch to +Y and you get that "clipping"...just select that mirror pivot/manipulator and move it up.
If you get that clipping just move the manipulator on that axis and the object will show up.

I did that with the pillar and it worked. However, now I'm doing another object and I believe I placed the pivot in a good spot for it (by the way the author of the tutorial just mirrors the object regardless of the pivot point and it works correctly (a lot less work)), yet it is still behaving really poorly.

Here are some examples, it's getting really old.. I just want to follow along with these tutorials but I need to figure this out or it will be a pain in the ass forever.

It is behaving the same with or without object history and regardless of where I put the pivot point.

EDIT: I'm using MayaLT 2017 if that makes any difference. Seems a lot of resources online and the tutorial are using an older version that has a different mesh drop down menu as well as mirroring options.

As far as i can see, what i said before is still what the main problem is with all of this gifs...
...i kind of have a feeling you just don't quite understand how Mirror works in the first place rather then it is issue with the Mirror tool itself.

If you can share that window as obj...i could give it a try on my end.

That's possible. I'm used to blender's set up and this is my third day using the program Maya, perhaps I am misunderstanding something fundamental to maya here. I'll share the file when I'm back home. I'm just confused by it since I followed along with the tutorial and re-did all the steps just like him multiple times now and the result was the same, even through two independent scenes at this time. It's strange, I hope i'm missing something here.

Anyway, i'll share it with you asap.

I think i know why you get issues on some gifs posted and it's because of your Mirror settings.
You have Border attribute set to "Merge Border" but then Merge Threshold set enormously high (153) while it's should be something like 0.01.
