Portfolio Creation Without Content?

Hey all,

I was thinking about putting a portfolio together and heading out into the world again, but there's a problem that I'm not sure how to resolve.

The work I've done for the past couple years as a Modeler and Multimedia artist isn't something I could show in a portfolio. I.e.: The companies would never let me use them and display it publicly. So.. that makes my portfolio light on the content part.  What do people generally do to supplement that? Or do they just list the work and references and leave it at that?

I know the easier answer is 'personal projects', but the projects I've been working on personally are 2D focused (Comic books and animating) so I'm not sure if they would work well for this.

Any thoughts or experiences on the matter would be most good!

It's pretty common practice to just password protect NDA art and only show it to people you apply to.  There is some risk involved but it's pretty ludicrous to not be able to show any of your work ever.
