Aim high or stay realistic?

What do you think is better for breaking (back) into the industry.
i've been out for a while and just now polishing up my stuff to start hitting jobs again.

What do you think is a wiser strategy? Should I target cream of the crop studios with AAA titles,
or aim for smaller more boutique places like mobile game studios?

    your portfolio is really dated, not bad, like you said it's been a while,  but definitely no where near the par of a AAA studio.  I would aim for a smaller company while you work on your stuff.

    Honestly, I would do both.

    Realistically yes, you should probably target your job search to the quality your portfolio is at now or just find any job that makes ends meet while you work on your portfolio on your spare time.

    You spare time is where you should aim high and get your portfolio to where you want it to be. If you could work anywhere where would you work? What game/studio/movie/whatever inspires you and you would kill to work on? Give your self direction and set a bar that you have to meet by finding artists or studios that you want to artistically be like.

    Your portfolio is also very fragmented, you have illustrations, 3d art, photos. I would pick one of those disciplines and remove the rest.

    Aim high.  Mobile will hire you if you have a AAA portfolio but AAA won't hire you with a mobile portfolio.

    Thanks! that's great advice. and yes my portfolio needs a LOT of work.
    I don't know if I can get down to 1 item, but I definitely only want the 2d/3d art work on there.  the photo/craft stuff is just for fun.

    I'll think about what you said about my dream company.

    obviously quality is quality is quality.
    if your stuff kicks ass you can get hired anywhere. that goes without saying.
    I suppose my original post was more about what KIND of content to put on there. Not so much the quality of it.

    Depends what you want to do. Most game companies are looking for specialists. Do you want to do concepts? 3d environments? Vehicles? I've gathered some guidelines here that might help you.
