Maya UV Editor problem

 Hey, I have a problem sometimes when I open a project I have been working on in Maya 2016, where the UVs go from neatly packed in the 0,1 space to scattered all over the place like in the picture below. I can't figure out how to revert it back to the way it was, and it tends go back to scattered after I repack it all, save and reopen again too.
 Is there someway to fix it? Or just a way to avoid the problem entirely?
