Came across this photos on my hard drive tonight, for all the young people out there, in the olden days you only got a single monitor, and most of the screen was taken up by the interface of the app you were using, can't believe how cramped that screen looks! I think that's Maya 3.5, or 4, and Photoshop 7, not CS7, just 7, and shortcuts to my two favorite games of the time Alien vs Preditor 2, and Soldier of Fortune 2. Hilarious, this was my home set up and the computer I made my first 3D art portfolio on which eventually landed me a job at EA Vancouver one million years ago.

seriously, good choice in hardware. That Canon scanner is still going strong for me 16 years later

forgot how white everything was back then, I think it was supposed to look futuristic or something :pleased: Which kinda sucked because everything turned yellow after a while, and all the dust and spots became super visible haha.

AFAIK the beige look was due to some ergonomics standards that were in effect until not all that long ago. not everyone followed them though, at least in the workstation camp you could find grey or black equipment in the 90's.

wish i could locate that picture now of my early 2000's desk with the sgi o2. perhaps if i bump into it by accident again...

Oh yes, I'm thrilled about this. I get migraine headaches from staring into CRT displays due to the rapid flickering of the display that's generally unseen to the human eye. You can see the effect in the first image Malcom posted with the light band across the top of the display. LCDs don't affect me at all.

14 inches of beige and glass goodness, nice! Plus, three button mouse - not that common back then but essential for Maya, and Dude - you had a sub-woofer, that's hardcore.

Strangely I remember that sub and speakers sounding better than the modern speakers and sub I have now.

I am still rocking my older Logitech speaker/sub combo from like 2005, or whenever the specific set came out (around that time). Have had many sets of headphones and speakers since, but always seem to fall back to my older logitech setup, so I do not doubt that it does sound better!

Not the oldest pic of my workstation but 2007 and I was rocking a CRT at Mythic, they had better color than LCD screens for a long time.

I held on to my dual CRT at work for much longer than I should have, the colour and the refresh rate for Maya where the two main factors. I remember my home desk used to bow slightly in the middle because the monitors were so heavy. 2008 was the year I finally upgraded to LCD because Dell finally solved the issues with their Ultra sharp product line.
