UV's in 3ds max 2010 gone mad?? :-/

Hey, could someone help me with this please..? I can't understand whats going on.. I've been using 3ds max for a long time now but I've never seen anything like this.. My UV mapping is gone haywire.. I'm creating a simple backpack to be exported to mudbox and I had a small issue with extruding the shoulder strap.. I was trying to extrude two poly's at once and one was going on the x-axis, the other on the z.. So beveled instead.. But then when I got to UV'ing, this happened.. I'm baffled..
