First Modular Enviroment - WIP

Hi, been following a tutorial from 3D Eat and have started to create my first modular environment.

So i'm just going to be posting my progress here, will be slow as i'm working on it in between collage, driving lessons and general life. So please critique it. At the moment, i'm working on the modular texture, thinking of trying it out on a test model but something seems wrong with the texture.

Current Environment Stage:

So, I have created my test asset to see if the textures come out as I had hoped, so far i'm happy with most of this, but I think that I will adjust the wood texture, maybe make it more grainy and darker.

Next I will be getting rid of my texture seams when tiled and see what my textures look like in UDK.

Have finally created my shaders and am moving onto changing my block out into actual modular assets.

Hit the "insert" icon to post an image. If it doesn't work you can try another host like Imgur.

In the quick reply, there's an Image Icon (Insert Image), copy the link into it and it will display the image.
Your images aren't working atm.

Sorry not posted in a while, been doing alot. Update of progress below, at the moment I am just creating all the assets from the modular texture, I will probably replace them later, and will be adding in individual assets to give more variety.

To be honest, its hard to judge how ur doing when your following a tutorial to the T. Your doing really good so far, but would of like to seen some creativity of your own. This is a very good tutorial though, Tor Frick is a god. Im sure you will learn a lot as you progress through the tut; I look forward to seeing some of your work in the future.

Thanks, yea I am starting to wish I had more of my "own" work in the environment, but the point of this was just to teach me the process. I plan on finishing this environment up and then creating one of my own designs, I am not sure if I want to go Sci-Fi or cartoon for my next environment. Only thing is i'm not sure if I will have time as I will be going to uni this coming year.

In addition, when should I call it a finished environment, I plan on adding in shrubbery, but I don't think ill know when i'm starting to go too far.

What would be the best way to go about desaturateing the scene, i'm guessing that its the lighting bounce that is creating the Brightness?

You have 3-4 colours in this scene which is what is part of the problem

To get a better idea of what you are talking about I have quickly desaturated the scene in Photoshop slightly, personally this is too grey for me but is this kind of more what you think the scene should be like?

I think it looks better with high saturation, it works well with the rust of the scene

Hi, not done much more to the environment, just updated the lighting a little, tweaked the curved ceiling material and added in some shrubbery. I want to keep the orange atmosphere to give a warm welcoming feel but do you still think its too saturated. Thanks all. Shrubbery brightness will be fixed.

Personally I feel it's a little too saturated as it stands currently, almost too much of an orange glow everywhere, I can see how you want to keep some of that warm atmosphere but it almost feels too cartoony in a way. you could desaturate the scene with a post processing volume, just tweak the levels until you find something comfortable.

Also if you haven't yet considered it and if you wanted to go beyond the tutorial some more you could try bringing it into UE4.

I cant tell if this is getting better or worse, please tell me if this is going in the right direction

And for now I don't plan on taking the environment into UE4, might do that with my next project.

currently, your textures are looking pretty flat, and your lighting is very monochrome. its mainly because of your shadows... they seem to match the lighting color, as if they were just a darker shade.

Just done another lighting and material update but think its lost allot of character, also think its a little too red again.
