Hey Folks,

as I want to get in the habit of gathering more feedback online, I just wanted to share what I am working on currently. :)

I love western and I like cartoony stuff. Also, Rango is my favorite animation movie...thats why I wanted to combine all of that to a small cartoony turntable piece for my portfolio.

I'am pretty bad at creating hand painted textures and dont really do much realtime stuff...so I wanna start to change that. almost all textures are placeholders.

the first 3 images are my inspirations.

any comments, critique and thoughts are much appreciated! :)
Thanks!

I think this looks quite nice. I'd use more geometry on the disc it's all sitting on, no reason to save polygons on something that's probably only going to be used for presentation reasons. The strong white highlights on your wood is also making it look a bit like plastic. The very top cactus also looks a bit weird. The colour doesn't fit in as well as the other two, but even those could probably be desaturated a bit. I think your texturing on the cracked jar is quite nice.

    new update:

I made a new tileable wood texture. was a lot of fun to do...and hard trying to make it tileable but not make it look too generic^^
might be too detailed I think...not cartoony enough..what do you think?

I also created some rock geometry for the base of the turntable and changed the composition.

I am still not sure whether the cashbox-building is readable enough or not...
following textures are still to be created:

    boot
    cashbox (metal)
    cactus
    better terrain texture
    can

any thoughts, comments and critique is much appreciated guys!! :)

now that I look at what I've posted yesterday, I like the old composition more :D
damn... especially the bottle-building is kinda lost in the new environment..
