  hold c ( curve snapping ). middle mouse ( click on the edge you're after and drag away )

  In modern Maya, you can also turn on Edge or Surface slide in the Transform Contstraints via the Modeling Toolkit, or by marking menu: holding w+lmb.

  In 2018 it's also possible to hold Ctrl+Shift while with a transform tool enabled
