mesh dark when mirrored udk

EDIT: Found my own work around. doesn't matter now.


Hey all, Im very new to modeling and udk work etc so im having a few issues. I had a look around and saw some similar threads to this but they didn't seem to answer my particular predicament.

Basically Im creating a wall out of planes, with holes cut in for a window mesh to slot in, meaning i need to duplicate the mesh and mirror it to use the other side, however when i do that the mesh goes dark for no apparent reason. As i said im very new to this, is this just something a normal map does? will i have to give unique uv/mesh to both sides of the wall around the window? (which i'll probs do anyway since of the ugly texture mirroring...)
