CCP just laid off 20% of it's staff, 34 here in Iceland, my husband among them, the rest in Atlanta. The company is not doing well, that's for sure.

So any companies in the Atlanta area, you have some employees on the loose to snatch up.

    Ahh that sucks. Sad to hear, I'm a big fan of theirs.

    So in the overall, what does that mean to people in Iceland? Are there even any other studios there? I was under the impression CCP is the only one.

    Man, that is a bummer! I hope the people who lost their jobs, and the company, can all bounce back from whatever is going on.

    Really sad to hear this. I'm at a studio here in Atlanta and have gotten to know some of the CCP guys pretty well. Really awesome group. I really hope everyone lands on their feet. And Ben, best of luck to your husband!

    No, there is Betware (a casino machine game company) and Gogogic (a facebook game studio) plus Mindgames, making brain controlled iOS, and some smaller startups. Icelanders are industrious folk, CCP was the largest, but I'm imagining most of the laid off people will leave Iceland for work. Agust and I will stay here, we're in iceland for the quality of life, not the game dev environment.

    Another point is that there is now a large group of talented people who have worked together, now without jobs. That's how new studios are born :)

    Damn straight. It would be cool to see them rise from the ashes like that and be successful to boot.

    Sucks to hear for sure.

    We managed to get one of the Atlanta UI guys. He's pretty kickass, and has nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff there.
