So I didn't see a thread on this, but this game came out on Sunday. It hadn't been on my radar at all, but I picked it up for my little brother, along with some of the toy packs you can buy, and I have to say this is one of the surprise hits for me this year.

The game is fun but the collecting aspect is very interesting. This is the first time I've seen a game successfully merge the two together and I can see many more games of this type coming soon. Especially since the damn toys aren't exactly cheap (but within reason for me), so I'm sure they're making a nice profit on this.

Anyone else here try it out?

Looks fun..but isn't the game like $70? And I heard you can't even beat the last boss until you buy a bunch of the other toys..and $8 per toy, or a $20 package for three toys, and there are around 30 of them? That just seems scummy to me.

It definitely seems like that's the biggest thing going against this game.

Mike from Penny-Arcade summed it up nicely:

As far as the last boss thing, I don't know, but watching a kid or two play this game and the way they react to seeing their toy come to life on screen is pretty awesome. I know it's been touched on before with EyeToy, but all of those games seemed very niche or just not executed up to par with the range of people Skylanders is able to hit. Pretty charming stuff.
