graphite ribbon and other new ui are blurry

Hi folks,
got a new video card (ATI from nvidia), all was peachy til firing up max:
the graphite ribbon, plus the new little noddy bits of ui for new file etc. and the help bar in the top right are blurry.
The homegrid in viewport is horribly filtered in some way.
mousing over the UI elements brings them a bit sharper, but if you move the window they blur out progressively.
It looks like they are somehow rendered 'behind' the windows tech which blurs out the background of things, and I've tried allsorts to get rid.
I can make the homegrid and wireframes in viewports look less shit by forcing higher AA in video drivers.
Anyone have a nice easy fix for me, other than whacking back my nvidia card?

WHy are pcs so damn annoying?
It allways seems to be ATI video cards with these problems.
There was also released a patch for that matter as far as i know for windows(not per WIndows Update so far)
OP said it was an ATI from nvidia, which as far as I know is like saying an Apple from Microsoft.
