If not for 3D, where would you be?

The title is pretty self-explanatory.

Let's say software packages weren't released to the public, or better yet, you didn't know anything about 3D, just weren't interested in it - what would you be doing right now? What kind of job would you have?

I'll start first. If not for my discovery of 3D/CGI, I would have a job working as a Systems Engineer in the IT field because of my love for computers since early childhood.

I think I probably would have gone down the military route, I have always hated academic study. I still keep it as a back up in case I'm never successful at this.

Speaking of the military route, I almost joined the Marines back in '08. Not sure if I would be here right now, would most likely be blown up by an IED somewhere in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

for 6 months i went to college to be a mathematician before i decided to go to school to make video games. I could've been someone in life, quite possibly a doctor in math. Thank goodness i am an artist

Seriously though....I was interested in drafting. I had some hand drawn drafting classes in middle school so I took some CAD classes in high school. Turns out that after completing the CAD courses we were offered 3d modeling/animation classes...so thats where I switched interests.

I'd probably be making logos, or web graphics. I still get asked to make logos and fliers quite often and try to get people to understand that raster is not the same thing as vector. (somehow some still rope me into doing it.) I'm glad I decided to go with 3d work instead of learning CSS and web design.

Graphic design and Web Design. Then maybe after years of not really enjoying it I'd take 2d art or music production more seriously as career choices. I don't want to think about it, because it very nearly happened, haha. I only got into 3d through coincidence and circumstance as it is. (although in a world where 3d did exist I probably would have found my way into it eventually)

It's not so much 3D as it is specifically games. Games are an interactive medium. The audience gets involved and can play with your work.

Put another way: Painters build windows to other worlds, game developers build doors.
