Vray rendering questions

just a heads up im a noob at vray rendering and film production rendering in general. so bear with me guys
i have look thru several vray lighting tutorials. some uses Adaptive DMC for Image sampler
and some uses adaptive subdivision which i have no idea what the difference is. Can anyone point out the advantages/disadvantages for using each one.
second question is i have tried lighting a building with a vray dome light and a normal target direct light, i duno what im missing but only direct light is showing in the render. vray dome light seems to not affect it at all. Ive also tried the vray sun and sky, and the same thing happens.
this is basically the building i want to render wihtout any surrounding objects. if anyone also have suggestions on how to set the scene up for rendering. please feel free to say it. cuz im really overwhelmed by how technical this is. plus im trying to get this rendered out asap for applying to a modeling position at a studio that does TV shows.
