3d scale model

hey polycount,

for a class i have to make a 3d scale model. i was thinking the barj al arab. im having trouble choosing the right building material. any ideas?:)

Hmm, well if it's a program your looking to use i would personally suggest Autodesk 3ds max 2009, 2010 or what i use now 2011.

its incredible once you get used to it in the first week.
any other specifics you require? cause i can help you in any of those departments!

So you need to make an actual real life model? In that case find an art/architectural supply store and buy either the fine cardboard sheets they use for scale models, or if you want something more heavy duty get styrene sheets.

ok fthe model will have to be real life. will be using metric system for scaling. i got some matt board or something and hoping to get some other stuff soon.

Start with a nice wire armature. You could probably use card or something equally simply for the majority of the structure. The white ribbed bit is going to be the tricky part. You might be able to do something with fabric stretched over wire. You can always harden it up by painting or soaking it in watered down PVA if necessary.
