I'm trying to get this space car model ready to compile, but I have a problem--I can't mirror part of the front bumper.
Most of the pieces, which have been merged from .max files, mirror just fine:
But I had to import the bumper from a .obj file I saved from Max, since I forgot to save the .max file somehow. And the bumper won't mirror. As soon as I check the "copy" box it turns both copies of the mesh to red wireframes, like so:
And if I try to click out and deselect it, Max crashes:
What's going on here?

first, you can try to convert your Editable Mesh to Editable Poly and back, to see if it is a mesh problem, at each conversion the geometry database is rebuilt and some errors could be fixed. Then apply the Modifier.
Second, you can use the Symmetry modifier, then collapse the stack, rather than the Mirror with copy.
Third, you can use the Mirror tool in the main toolbar, found between Named Selection dropdown menu and Align tool.
One of these hopefully should work.
