-I have a pressing job to finish first
-I'm not sure if I'm good enough of a concept artist to come up with a sufficient design
but mostly:
-3D doesn't seem to win a lot, previous contest was all 2D that took prizes and follow-ups. As has been the trend at CGsociety for years now, just look at the featured work on the front, it's always the same sort of work they like seeing there...

Might give it a shot for fun's sake. I agree with Xoliul's point though - not because judges are biased towards 2d, it's just that there are many kickass 2d artists out there, and some things are faster to do in 2d, like coming up with multiple design iterations e.t.c.
