I'm a habitual Photoshop user, but this looks interesting. Good they're supporting multi-window mode too, for those of us with multiple monitors. Thanks for the link.
Thank god. I hate the multi window design. I'd rather they have a main window, and then allow you to pop out the views you want to detach. I always hated, when I mean to close out the program, but I close one of my control panels instead. Not to mention switching between panels to see/work.
Otherwise, I really think it's a great package, especially for the price
That is some cool news! When I tried Gimp about a year ago I couldn't stand the UI. This one looks a lot better but I love photoshop too much to leave her.
I currently use the GIMP as my primary image editor. As far as the feature set, it covers most of the basics. Having the option of a single-window format would be quite welcome. The multi-window setup they currently have isn't a deal-breaker, but it definitely takes some getting used to. A single window setup with tabs for different files would be keen.
One of the big issues I've had with the GIMP is just the layer organization. In Photoshop, you can organize layers into different folders. In the version of the GIMP I've been using, I don't have that option. If you are dealing with a lot of layers, it REALLY helps to organize them. A GIMP file with thirty or so layers gets very difficult to work with.
i think i recall a couple of months ago i saw something in the readme/release note that said something about change to the code to prepare for folder organisation.
think it was specifically this (in the NEWS link under 2.7.0):
- Prepare data structures for layer groups
so its coming might just be awhile for them to implement

Yes, but will it provide the ability to organize layers into different folders?
