dual monitor chatter

hey all, i'm looking into upgrading by adding another monitor for my computer set up at home. while researching i've read that i need a video card for each monitor that i'm running. this sounds like it could be a road block for me because i'm working off of a laptop and there is no room to add another video card. However i do have a nvidia GeForce Go 7400 and in my properties menu in settings, there is an option that says it supports multipule monitor display.
I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction before i go out and lay down some cash on another monitor.
I'm on an HP Pavilion - 2 years old with the video card i mentioned earlier. thanks guys

**edit** i've read up on the nvidia website and they do say my Geforce does support one external monitor so i'm gonna give it a shot - but any other information you all may have is greatly appreciated!!

Looks like you are good to go buddy. Make sure you check what resolution your graphics card can handle and buy a monitor accordingly. It would suck to have a 22" monitor with a 800x600 resolution .

main rule for dualview is: if you've got a free vga/dvi port you can handle 2 monitors
but i you're not shure, you can plug an old crt from your parents into the plug trying to set it to dualview *G*

have you done CRT+LCD mode on your laptop? That may be the easiest. Use your laptop screen for one display and the external display for the other. Usually the toggle is a one of the blue function buttons plus the key that looks like a little monitor.

I highly recommend Ultramon, it spreads the task bar across both monitors and keeps the tasks separate according to the monitor they are running on. It also manages wallpapers and the icons it provides for switching a window from one monitor to another actually fit the windows themes and aren't as goofy/logo ridden as the Nvidia icons.

vig: thanks for the heads up on the ultramon. and yea, i've already read through that previous post and have logged that information into my notes incase it ever happens to me
