Gearbox + Aliens ?

It's official. Sega has announced that they have hired Gearbox software to develop a FPS title utilizing the Aliens liscence that they acquired from 20th Century Fox. Gearbox is developing a shooter title based in the Aliens universe...

...oh dear, I seem to have wet myself...

Seriously though, I'm pretty stoked about this. Gearbox has an impressive record of solid titles. In recent years, they have been specializing in squad-based shooters with exceptional implementation of squad strategy and interaction. This style of play would be ideally suited to take advantage of the Space Marines vs. Aliens setting. This strikes me as a very wise decision on Sega's part. It's unfortunate that the game is targeted at 2009. It's going to be a long wait for an Alien's fan like myself.

you know, i was just about to comment that they better leave out any predator-related stuff and just stick to the setting of the older movies.

I am really hoping that I get to do some work on it at some point but I am on the team for the next BIA right now. I am not sure how much I can say about what little I do know so all I will say is that I am really looking forward to watching it come together

Steady pretty much beat me to it, bastard. I was pretty happy with the avp games, and i'm glad to see one devoted entirely to Aliens alone. Even though i pretty much shat myself during the marine campaign in avp.

I'm hoping they'll manage to go nextgen enough to have a fluid dynamic animationsystem for the aliens when the wallclimb, and I do want the ability to lower myself silently from the ceiling

No PC is a big downer. I really enjoyed the BiA series. Gearbox do some good stuff, even If they always insist on making characters heads too big, giving them a childlike demeanour ;-)

I still dont buy the claimed lighting engine from Hells Highway though. I'll believe it when its released.

The big heads mixed with the over sized uniforms really does bring out the adolescent look. Oh and check out the bad weighting on the elbow of the guy in the lower right. I thought they only pinned your shirt like that after you lose your arm to a mortar?

I've also seen a Thompson fired and its not a freakin flame thrower I guess you have to forget about somethings in the name of fun and flash.
