Job Description

Blind Squirrel Games is looking for a talented artist to join our team of 3D Environment Artist / Generalist, focusing on environment art creation and composition. The candidate should possess a wide range of skills related to Environment Art that include modeling, sculpting, texturing, shader creation, lighting, optimization, world building, and pipeline development across a wide variety of styles and workflows. An understanding of proportion and scale, both in relation to the human body and built environments is key.

At BSG, our diverse portfolio of work demands a wide skill set that is rarely focused on any one part of a pipeline. We are looking for forward thinking artists that have an eye to critically evaluate their own work at a high level, work from source and concept art, are self-managing on tasks and schedules, and most importantly able to collaborate and communicate within team based efforts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Create environments across a broad set of styles and workflows
-Model, texture, sculpt, and bake proficiently
-Adapt to a variety of pipelines, as well as create new systems for internal development
-Maintain a deep understanding of design and composition
-Other duties may be assigned to accomplish company or department objectives

Experience
-3+ Years of professional work experience as a 3D Artist

Other Skills and Abilities
-Ability to create believable 3D assets and textures from concept and/or photos
-Expert knowledge on one 3D package (Maya or 3DS Max) for production
-Must have Z-Brush/Mudbox experience and the ability to turn high res assets into low res game playable models
-Must possess strong skills to create textures for both realistic and hand painted models/environments
-Have expert knowledge using Allegorithmic Substance or Quxiel Suite
-Strong UV-mapping skills
-Expert knowledge of Unreal, CryEngine, or Unity
-Must be able to create both hard surface and organic environments
-Understand the use of dynamics to create destruction
-Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
-Be able to work with tight deadlines and constraints
-Clearly communicate updates and properly escalate concerns to the appropriate team member(s) and manager(s)
-Ability to give and receive critiques for art
-Passion for Video Games

Pluses
-Understanding of PBR Pipeline
-Lighting and SkyDome Creation
-Understand the use of dynamics to create destruction
-Experience with PhysX, Havok, and similar systems
-Landscape or Terrain generation from satellite imagery(USGS), World Machine or Vue
-Experience using Jira & Confluence.
-Expert knowledge of Unreal, CryEngine, or Unity
-Experience with Perforce
-PS4 or XB1 Development experience
