X pattern in Maya.

My excuses I am a relatively new user in maya - been using it for 2 months.  I am trying to rotate my faces 45 degrees. This can be easily done in Max with the graphite tools - with just 1 click.  I know this can be done in Maya with M.A.S.H but becomes problematic on shapes with alot of curvature.
What would be the most efficient way to do this in maya?
Anyone know a script that can do this specific pattern?  (face rotation 45 degrees)

You could chamfer all the vertice and set the width to 0.5.
And don't forget to merge them.
